Special Education Korean Student Organization (KSKSO), KU
Purpose: KU SPED Korean student Organization (KSKSO) plans two major activities. One of the activities would be an academic forum or conducting research for cultural issues in special education and related disability areas. KSKSO members and other possible Asian students majoring in any disability area will regularly research and discuss cultural issues related to special education, and provide inofrmation or presentation for KU students. The topic of the cultural issue may be picked up by KSKSO members or assigned by a KU special education faculty as occasion demands. The presentation can possibly be made through the special education course work such as 'SPED 798 Understand U.S. Culture and Education System,' and the class presentation will be opened to all students at KU if they are interested in the topic. It would be also possible to publish the dicussed contents with the KSKSO advisor's consultant and assistance when it its available. In the spring 2005, KSKSO members shared information about 'PBS (positive behavior support).' More discussion will be continued in the 2005 school year. The other activity would be providing KU SPED department information when Korean applicants make inquiries about the KU SPED program. Because KU's special education is one of the highly ranked graduate programs in the US and well-known program for students studying special education in Korea, many Korean applicants are requesting information. KSKSO will proved a web site to introduce KU SPED program in Korean. The web site will be linked to the official KU SPED department web site and assigned KSKSO members in the focus area of SPED will interactively provide specific information that applicants need. During the spring 2005, KSKSO has developed the web site, and it is about to complete. Progress of the web development can be checked at http://people.ku.edu/~yes5150.
