East Asian Degrees Available at KU

Undergraduate and Graduate work leading to Bachelor's, Master's and the Ph.D. with an East Asian emphasis may be taken in the Departments of Anthropology, Geography, History, History of Art, Linguistics, Speech and Drama, Philosophy, and Political Science. Students interested in one of these degree programs should write directly to the appropriate department.

The Department of East Asian Languages and Culture offers B.A. and M.A. degrees.

Master of Business Administration/Master of Arts in East Asian Languages and Cultures ( MBA/MA in EALC)

Students in this program combine a business education with graduate study of an East Asian geographic area and language. The student builds a substantial base of cultural knowledge and language competence while mastering the fundamentals of business. Graduates who possess a working knowledge of Chinese, Japanese or Korean and familiarity with the corresponding cultures, as well as a comprehensive understanding of the business, economic, and political climate of East Asia are poised to move into positions of leadership in the East Asian business arena.

Joint Degree Program in Law and East Asian Languages and Cultures leading to the J.D. and M.A. in East Asian Languages and Cultures Degrees

The JD/MA EALC program combines into four years and one summer of full time study the Juris Doctor program offered by the School of Law and the Master of East Asian Languages and Cultures program offered by the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Growing interdependence with East Asia, particularly with China, provides a need for lawyers versed in culture and language.  A joint degree in Law and East Asian Languages and Cultures opens many doors for its recipients.  One can find opportunities in international trade and finance, immigration law, and other related fields, as well as a greater ability to work with clients from various backgrounds.
